    Extended Daycare Needs Morning Help!!!

We are in need of a parent that would be interested in working from about 6:55 am until about 7:40 am Monday thru Friday in our early morning care.  Job responsibilities are supervising the 10-20 students that use our early morning care services.  They are usually very well behaved, mostly because they are still half-asleep.  They come in, eat their breakfast, and then you escort them to their classrooms at 7:30 am.  This is a great way to help lower your tuition or make a little extra money.  Call the office if you are interested.

    Latest Uniform Information

    Updated 7/29/2010 - 3 pm

    *******NEWSFLASH*******NEWSFLASH*********NEWSFLASH*****

For all of our Kinder through 5th grade girls who are planning on wearing the Keds II Saddleback in navy and white - Stride Rite has just announced a buy one, get one half off sale that runs for the next several weeks.  Thank you to one of our parents for sending us this information.

This article will provide the latest information on school uniforms from now until after school starts. As many of you know, Holy Name took over providing the school uniforms for the 09-10 school year. This was an opportunity for us to keep the cost of the uniform down and provide convenience for our parents to get their uniforms. While we feel that it was a positive experience for the most part, we decided that it is in the best interest of our families to allow Krystal Lacel's to once again provide for Holy Name's uniform needs.

I visited Krystal Lacel's a week ago and they are almost completely ready for families to begin purchasing school uniforms. As of today, 7/6/10, the only items Krystal Lacel's is waiting on is the girl's ties and the boy's embroidered polos. The ties and polos should be in by the end of this week.

Here is Holy Name's uniform requirements for this year and where you can pick up these items:

Boys - The boy's polo shirts are grey and have the Holy Name logo on them. This year we will allow the polos to be screen printed (last year's) or this year's embroidered shirts that can be purchased at Krystal Lacel's.

All boys are required to wear a belt and have their shirts tucked in all day. Plain, brown or black belts will work fine. No flashy belts.

Boys are allowed to wear navy blue pants or shorts. Blue jeans are not allowed, unless it is Spirit Day or they have a free dress pass. Boys' shorts should be from 4 inches above their knee to the knee.

Boys' shoes are still going to be black this year but we are only going to allow three styles of shoes all available at Academy. Here is the information on the three black shoes the boys will be wearing this year:

The first version is an all-black Nike for $39.99. The style number for the men's Nike is 386766003. Sizes are 7.5 to 13E.  Style number for this shoe in boys regular width is NXT315555-002. The style number for wide width boys is NXT354733-002. The price for the boys shoes are $32.99 and the sizes range from 11-7.

Their is also an all-black New Balance model in men's for $49.99.  The style number is MX623AB and sizes available ar 8-14.  They also have boys size available in 11-7 and they are $24.99.  The style number for regular width is KX622BKG and the wide width is style number KX622KP.

Finally, the most economical model is a Trendz all-black model for $19.99. The style number for men's sizes 8-13 is EM176-2B.  There are also boys sizes available in 11-6 and the style number is YD-89023B.  The boy's shoe price is $9.99. We are going to be checking for these shoes on the first day of school.  Academy has assured us that these shoes will be in stock year-round so there is no excuse for your son not to have these shoes when school starts.

There is always a question about socks. We are going with normal white ankle or calf socks this year.  If your child puts on their socks and you can't see the socks, these are not allowed.  The school requires that at least 2 inches be seen above the shoe top.

Finally, we are adding a navy blue tie to the boys' uniform requirement for church every Friday. The dress shirt and navy blue tie can be purchased from Krystal Lacel's.  The dress shirt can be either short or long sleeve.

Preschool boys and girls will wear the Holy Name Preschool t-shirt available at Krystal Lacel's.  They will also wear navy blue shorts or pants for the boys and navy blue pants, shorts, or skorts for the girls.  Krystal Lacel's stocks all of the preschool pants, shorts, and skorts.

The preschool shoe and sock requirement are the same as the rest of the school with one exception.  As long as the shoes are all-black, they can be purchased anywhere.  If they are not wearing all-black shoes, a uniform violation will be sent home and the all-black shoes will need to be purchased immediately.

This completes the requirements for the boys' and preschool uniforms for 2010-11 and where you can purchase each item. These items are outlined in the 2010-2011 Student Handbook which will be posted to the Holy Name website shortly.

    Girls' Uniform Requirements -

White midi blouses will be available at Krystal Lacel's.

The girls' navy blue skorts will also be available at Krystal Lacel's.  Kystal Lacel's will also sell the girls' navy blue ties and the school patches.

The middle school girls school shoes are available at School Shoes Unlimited off of Blanco or through their website.  The Kinder through 5th shoes can also be purchased through Keds.com.  The middle school girls are required to wear the same shoes as last year from School Shoes Unlimited.  It is a black and white saddle back shoe costing around $55.  This shoe lasted the entire year for all of our girls so it is very sturdy.  You can click on the following link to get more information about store hours and how you can
purchase online. Click on saddle oxfords when this page opens.
    http://www.schoolshoesunlimited.com/main.sc;jsessionid=23058A1E9B11F5738B25995FDA0A1E9F.q

The Kinder through 5th grade girls will also be allowed to wear this saddle back shoe in black and white, but they have another option in a Keds style.  They can wear the Keds School Days II Saddle Shoe in navy and white.  This shoe is $29.99 on the keds.com website and is also available at School Shoes Unlimited(see store information in above paragraph).  These shoes are also available at StrideRite, website or store.  Here is the link, http://www.striderite.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2013&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=keds+II

The Kinder through 5th grade girls will no longer be allowed to wear the all black shoes.  They will have to wear either the Shoes Unlimited saddleback in black and white or the Keds School Days II saddle shoe model in navy and white.

We will post where these shoes are available at additional local retail stores once we acquire this information.

The Kinder through 8th grade girls will be wearing navy blue socks that extend to their knees.  These socks can be purchased at Krystal Lacel's.  When you purchase these long navy blue socks you need to make sure they extend to the bottom of your daughter's knee and will not fall down to their calf during the day.  Most of these long socks have spandex in them to keep them secure on your daughter's leg.

    New Playground is Ready

I want to thank Mr. Rivera, Mr. Soto, Mr. Charo, Mr. Killin, and Mr. Solis for showing up Saturday in an attempt to complete the installation of our new playground.  We had a 200 page installation manual and were really excited, but after the holes were dug, and the poles placed, and some of the platforms set it was already 4 pm.  I made the decision to stop at that point and bring in the pros.  Parent volunuteers are vital to our school and they were truly a blessing in starting this project, but the magnitude of this install was beyond my own expectations.

The professional installer finished the playground Thursday morning and the students started playing that afternoon.  They really enjoyed playing on their new playground Friday.  We will be posting some pictures to the website to share of the students enjoying their new playground.

We want to thank the PTC for their purchase of this new playground for the kids.  Just seeing the smiles on their faces made me realize how important it is to invest in their ability to play.  Their smiles were amazing.  I willl encourage the PTC to continue to invest in ways that will keep our children active.

God bless all of the Holy Name families.

    Latest Classroom Updates

We have had a very difficult time finalizing all of the classroom assignments this year due to many late registrations.  We do understand that with the present economy it has made paying tuition a real struggle.  With this said, the school has had to make the difficult decision of only having one third grade class for the 2010-2011 school year.

What does this mean for our third grade families?  Well, Mrs. Salazar will be the teacher of this class and there will most likely be 25 or more students in the class.  Do we like this situation?  No, we don't, but the reality is that we are unable to form another class with only 25 registered third graders for next year.  A waiting list has been started for any new 3rd graders interested in registering.  What are we going to do to support Mrs. Salazar?  Well, she is an experienced teacher who has had classes larger than 25 students in the past.  At this time, we are looking at providing an assistant for her for part of the day.  This assistant will help with any task that Mrs. Salazar needs such as copies, tutoring students or redirecting off-task behavior.  We also know that we have some very dedicated parents coming from 2nd grade and many of them will be offering their help with any items Mrs. Salazar needs.  As always our goal is that every child learn as much as possible this year, so we will do everything we can to reach this goal.  Additionally, many of our 3rd grade students have been in separate classes since kindergarten.  I know many of them will be excited to have all of their friends in class with them.

This means that Mrs. Ranara will be teaching the 2nd grade class.  All of the other teaching assignments will remain the same as last year.

Our first grade is also closed and will have at least 25 students this year.  We do not have to worry about increased numbers in first grade because Pat Garcia, the instructional assistant, will continue to work with Ms. Garcia to support her and the students.

We have plenty of room in all of our other classes so everyone is encouraged to get in now and register for 2010-2011.

All class rosters will be posted outside of the teacher's classes on Thursday, Aug. 12th for the Meet the Teacher day.

We look forward to the upcoming 2010-2011 school year and pray that it is one of the best ever for you and your child.
