The teachers, staff and I are so excited to see all of you for our "Meet the Teacher" day on August 13th and on the first day of school, August 17th. We encourage you to make preparations now so that your child's school year will get off to a great start. The school supplies list is available here for you to make sure your child starts school with the supplies they need. We also have school uniform information available to keep you updated so that your child will look their best on the first day of school. Any other questions you may have that are not answered here, please let us know how we can help.
We are very excited about important changes coming to Holy Name Catholic School for the 09-10 school year. We have added an exciting new technology component to our school curriculum from EducationCity.com. They are a leading provider of supplementary educational content for PreK-8 grade schools across the US. The students will begin utilizing this exciting, educational website 2-3 weeks into the school year. EducationCity.com allows their teacher to track their progress on grade level goals throughout the entire year. Students will be able to progress through educational materials at their own pace while interacting with this engaging website. We will be providing additional information about EducationCity.com in our Wednesday newsletters.
The PTC (Parent Teacher Committee) has purchased some exciting additions to our school over the summer to improve the academic life of your child. First, they have purchased a new Spanish program for all grade levels K-8. After studying this program, we felt the students would enjoy, and most importantly learn from, this new program. Again, parents will get additional information on the Spanish program as school begins in August. They also purchased a new playground for our preschool students. This playground is going to provide years of excitement and fun for our littlest friends here at Holy Name. We are also planning to add another play structure to the Kinder-8th grade playground early in the school year so that our older students have something to enjoy. Finally, the PTC helped us bolster security over the summer by paying for a new alarm system for the school. We now have a fully monitored alarm system for the elementary and middle school buildings where many of our high-priced technology items are located. We have added some exciting technology products over the last few years and this alarm will help to secure these products when the school is closed.
We are praying for all of our students and families right now and will continue to pray for them throughout this school year. Our prayer is that all of the students will be blessed spiritually and academically this year. That they will experience one of their most outstanding school years ever, with as little difficulty as possible.
We will continue our focus on prayer for the 09-10 school year by keeping the prayer requests section in our bi-weekly newsletters. This section allowed us to pray and thank God for many people last year and I believe was a blessing. We pray that God will continue to bless and work in the lives of those names that fill our prayer list this year.
Finally, we are rapidly approaching our 50 year anniversary coming up in 2011. The Lord has blessed our school for many years as we have provided a strong Catholic education to the students of the southeast side. As we move closer to this special anniversary, we want to assure you that your child's spiritual and academic success remains our main priority. This comes directly from our mission statement, "to provide a secure atmosphere, which promotes strong Gospel values and academic excellence."
In His Holy Name,
Chad Mills
